Welcome to CAVUHB

About us
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest NHS organisations in Europe and the second-largest in Wales. We are an 18,000 strong organisation that spends circa 9% of the national revenue budget (£2.3bn) on an ethnically diverse, local population of over 520,000 people who experience inequalities. The Health Board delivers a full range of services, from community-based care close to home to specialist and tertiary services for patients across Wales. This is supported by strong partnerships in public health, research, and education.
Health and wellbeing are influenced by a wide range of social, economic, and environmental factors, and these vary significantly between communities. While life expectancy across our region is above the Welsh average, there remains a gap of up to nine years between the most and least deprived areas. At the same time, a growing and ageing population, alongside increasing levels of long-term conditions, is placing additional pressure on services.
We are pleased to share a dashboard bringing together local intelligence and key public health information in one place, enabling you to better understand the profile of your constituency, identify inequalities, and support informed conversations and decisions that benefit your communities.

Supporting you with with accessible, data-driven insights into the communities you represent.
We are pleased to support Members of the Senedd (MSs), Members of Parliament (MPs), and Independent Members (IMs) with accessible, data-driven insights into the communities you represent. This dedicated space provides constituency-level demographic dashboards designed to help you better understand local health needs, inequalities, and service pressures across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Our strategic approach
Our work is guided by the Shaping Our Future Wellbeing Strategy 2023–2035, which sets out a long-term vision to improve health and reduce inequalities.
Through this strategy, we are focused on supporting healthier communities, delivering high-quality care, and working collaboratively with partners to achieve the best possible outcomes for both patients and staff.
You can read the strategy in full here, alternatively please browse this dedicated website which contains all of the information you require including our key strategic objectives.
We are committed to openness and accountability in all that we do. Information about our decisions and performance is made publicly available, including Board and Committee papers, which are published on our website, and live-streamed Board meetings where questions can be submitted in advance.
We also work closely with Llais, the independent body that represents the views of people across Wales and helps shape health and social care services.
Like health systems across the UK, we continue to face sustained demand, increasing waiting times, and the need to modernise elements of our estate. Addressing these challenges while improving access, experience, and outcomes remains a central priority.
We are working closely with partners, including McKinsey & Company and Tricordant, to strengthen productivity, improve how services are delivered, and ensure the organisation is sustainable for the future.
We recognise the important role you play in representing your constituents and engaging with public services. We are committed to supporting you through access to relevant information, opportunities to meet with colleagues, and visits to our facilities where appropriate. We are also happy to provide guidance to help you interpret and use the data within these dashboards effectively.
